TS MONTH – RECALL

TSB OF THE MONTH - RECALL

1996 Honda Accord

Recall # 98V231000

Air Conditioner Wiring Harness Chafing

Background:  The factory installed air conditioner wire harness was improperly routed, allowing some wires to rub against each other, eventually causing a short circuit.

Corrective Action:  Dealers will inspect the vehicles for proper routing of these wires.  Any harness improperly routed will be inspected for damage and the routing will be corrected.  If any insulation is worn through and the copper wires are exposed, the harness will be replaced.  Dealers will also install plastic tubing to protect the harness.

What should you do if this applies to your vehicle?

Honda has mailed letters to owners of affected vehicles.  This procedure will be performed by any Honda dealership at no charge to you.  If you did not receive notification of this update, please contact your local Honda dealership or Honda Consumer Affairs Department at 800-999-1009

TECH TALK –

iATNFor Professionals

Mechanical failures, an inconvenience any time they occur, are much worse in the winter.  Preventative maintenance is a MUST.  Even with the “mild” winters that we have here in the Bay Area there are still a few things that need to be done to get your vehicle ready for winter.  Here are a few helpful tips from ASE’s “Ted the Technician” to get your vehicle ready for winter.

Engine Cooling System – The cooling system should be drained and refilled every 24 months.  The level, condition, and concentration should be checked periodically between services (a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water is recommended).  NEVER remove the radiator cap until the engine has completely cooled!

Windshield Wipers – Replace wiper blades annually and check washer fluid level.

Battery – The only accurate way to detect a weak battery is to have it professionally tested.  Here at Honda Diagnostic & Service, our battery maintenance service includes filling and testing the battery fluid, cleaning battery terminals and cable ends, testing the charging system, and load testing the battery.

Lights – Inspect all exterior lights and replace any burned out bulbs.

Exhaust System – Your vehicle should be placed on a lift so the exhaust system, trunk, and floorboards can be thoroughly inspected.  Exhaust fumes can be deadly!

Tires – Worn tires will be of little use in winter weather.  Examine tires for remaining tread life and uneven wear.  Check the sidewalls for cracks and cuts.  Check tire pressures monthly (don’t forget the spare!).  Have tires rotated every 7500 miles or 6 months.

SOS – Carry emergency gear; jackets, gloves, boots, blankets, flares, flashlight, and cellular phone.  It is also a good idea to keep some snacks in the car, particularly if you have children.

If your vehicle has not had a routine maintenance service performed within the last 6 months, give us a call to schedule an appointment today!
